Services

Workshops, assessment, one-on-one therapy and professional development, all built around the foundational physical skills children need to engage and excel.

RedE Foundations 4 School

Workshops for parents and caregivers with their 4-year-olds

Four workshop sessions for families whose child is due to start school in the next 6 to 12 months. You'll learn key principles and techniques, then practise them with your child in a fun, supportive environment.

You leave each session with practical tools and the confidence to keep nurturing your child's development at home.

It's ideal if you want to understand your child's next developmental steps, make sense of any challenges, or simply gain reassurance about how they're progressing.

  • Groups are limited to four parents or guardians and their four 4-year-olds, so the support stays personal.
  • Prefer to come with friends? Arrange your own group with three of them and their 4-year-olds, and Joanna will look at dates and times that suit you.
  • Dates and costs are given when you register your interest.

What happens in the four sessions

  1. Core strength, pelvic and shoulder stability

Crawling forwards and backwards, animal walks and rolling on coloured squares, and throwing beanbags into hoops.

  2. Different positions, body parts and motor planning

Bubbles, kneeling positions, planning an obstacle course, and pushing a balloon along on your tummy with a stick.

  3. Bilateral co-ordination, the vestibular system, proprioception and movement patterns

Ball skills such as rolling, bouncing on a target and passing, tracking toy cars with your eyes, towel toboggans and lycra.

  4. Writing, scissors, visual perception and visual-motor co-ordination

Pencil and scissor skills, moving between fine-motor and whole-body activities.

RedE 2 Learn?

Individual developmental assessment

Is your child going to be happy and confident at school? Do they have the foundational physical skills to engage and excel in a formal learning environment?

If you're concerned, unsure, or just want peace of mind that all is on track, this individual assessment can help. Joanna, a paediatric occupational therapist with over 30 years of experience, shows you where your child is on their developmental journey and what their next steps are.

If your child would benefit from seeing other paediatric health professionals, Joanna can arrange the referral.

Peace of mind

Know that all is well, or that you've stepped in early enough to give your child the best start to school.

Clear next steps

Learn where your child is at and how to help them reach what comes next.

The first step to therapy

If your child needs one-on-one support, this assessment comes first.

“Joanna is thorough and precise in her assessments of children but always in a way that they're often unaware that they're being assessed.”

Anne Boulton, Learning Support Coordinator, Pukekohe Hill School
